I left Wall Street in October 2004 with the sense that I wanted to do something different, something entrepreneurial, something truly transformational. I have since funded over 30 companies, each of which has big plans for disrupting incumbent players and industries in the worlds of financial technology and digital media.
I am currently Managing Partner of IA Capital Partners, LLC, my personal investment vehicle.
Prior to IA, I was the President and CEO of DB Advisors LLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Deutsche Bank AG. My 130-person team managed over $6 billion in capital through a twenty-strategy hedge fund platform with offices in New York, London and Hong Kong.
Before DB Advisors, I was Managing Director and Co-head of Deutsche Bank’s Global Strategic Equity Transactions Group. In 2000, my team won Institutional Investor magazine’s “Derivatives Deal of the Year” award.
As an Investment Banker and Managing Director at Citibank, I held a variety of roles and responsibilities in the Global Derivatives, Capital Markets, Mergers & Acquisitions and Capital Structuring groups.
I currently serve on the boards of Alphacet; Buddy Media; Domdex; Global Bay Mobile Technologies; Selerity Financial; and Stocktwits. I also served on the Board of DSL.net Inc., a publicly-traded telecommunications company.
I hold an MBA in Finance, Accounting and Management from Columbia Business School and a BBA in Finance, Economics and Organizational Psychology from the University of Michigan. For those familiar with Ann Arbor, I met my wife at Rick’s. It’s been over 20 years since that wonderful evening and we are now the proud parents of two not-so-little Wolverine fans.
I have a passion for Wall Street, the markets, deals and the Internet. The first three were discovered and nurtured since about 10 years of age. The Internet, however, really only became a passion in the wake of my departing Wall Street and taking a fresh look at life. The massive power and democratizing influence of the Internet was immediately appealing, and it didn't take long for me to consider how this power could be harnessed and applied to the realms of Institutional investment and Wall Street. This is currently how I spend my time; using the power of the Internet to pursue the dream of Information Arbitrage, a place where hard-to-find, "long tail" information is accessed, analyzed and monetized in the investment process. I am also applying this framework to a rich array of long-tail information, particularly in the digital media space.
