A Terrific Overview of the Video Gaming Landscape

My friend Darren Herman, one of the founders of IGA, put together a terrific piece on his blog titled An Insiders Look at the Video Game Industry. Being a relative newbie in the gaming world, yet one who has jumped in with both feet (and wallet), I find Darren's perspective interesting, informative - and spot on target. I personally buy his view that Industry Services (as he defines them) is an area where the large media companies should focus, while my personal investing is largely concentrated in the Gamer and Industry Services domains (I have some deals in the pipeline that I have not yet added to my portfolio). I also like the rational commercial perspective he brings to his analysis of the industry, one where the concept of "lifetime value of the gamer" and development of multiple revenue streams are the keys to success.

Whether a seasoned industry-watcher or a newcomer to the gaming business, Darren's presentation has something for everyone. If you've got the time, check it out.
